Children's Day is celebrated on June 1st in over 50 countries around the world. Although it is a day dedicated to the little ones, June 1st is an opportunity for each of us to remember the joy of childhood, to put aside their worries and rediscover the game.
How Children's Day came along
The idea of a child's day was proposed in 1925 at the World Conference on Children's Welfare in Geneva. In 1949, the International Democratic Federation of Women officially adopted this initiative and the UN proclaimed World Child Day in 1954 by Resolution 836.
The UN General Assembly recommended that from 1956 each country choose a date to mark this day through activities promoting the rights of the child, fraternity between children and ideals of the United Nations Charter. The UN celebrates Child Day on November 20, in memory of the adoption of the Declaration of Child Rights (1959) and the Convention of Child Rights (1989).
